(in my experience.) If you (or anyone) have any feedback/suggestions, let me know. I'm not super huge on shmups myself, but I know a lot of people are, so here they are.Ī good GOTM shouldn't be too quick/easy, and it has to be at least a little bit well-known, or else a lot of people skip it. I have somewhat of a list of games that would be good GOTMs, and I often consult the suggestions I got from the survey at the end of last year. So I split it between GBC and GBA to let the votes decide. But we also just came off of 2 GB games, so something was going to get overrepresented. This month we're playing a GBC game, and I'd settled on a spooky GBA matchup for October long ago, so normally I'd go for a GB game. But none of those are strict rules and I break them all the time. I also usually try to do 2 games that are on the same platform that are similar in some way, usually genre. I try to jump between GB, GBC, and GBA, and I also try to avoid doing too much of the same genre of game, at least in a row. (must be completed and posted in August.) Leaderboards Two points: Defeat Risky and watch the ending.

One point: Win the race against Rottytops and enter the Cackle Mound. It's available on the 3DS eShop, and reproductions can be found for cheap. Shantae is one of the latest GBC releases, and is famously the most expensive by far. Unfortunately it's still too hot to go outside. Previous Months January February March April May June JulyĬongratulations to u/zaiueo and u/wiedo! Expect a PM from me. Prize donors: Special thanks to the following donors for donating games for this year's prize bundles! Donors get 2 votes each month when selecting next month's GOTM. I'll divide into bundles in the coming months. Here's what I have: Some more games will find their way into the pile before the year is up. Prize bundles will materialize as the year progresses. The remaining two bundles will be raffled off to the other participants, who will receive one raffle entry for each point earned, as long as they have earned a minimum of 4 points. The user with the most points at the end of the year will receive the bundle of his/her choosing, then the 2nd-place finisher chooses next. Emulation is okay, but no cheating! Check detailed rules for more info. Post your screenshot in this month's thread to make sure I see it. Half-point and one-point milestones can be earned at any time during the year. Post it here in the thread for all to see. Take a picture of your screen with your username written on a piece of paper. Start a fresh new game, no earlier than August 1! Earn points and compete with other redditors. Play the Game of the Month and try to reach the specified milestones. While the Shantae games do have some plot points that carry through the series, fans really don't need to know the backstory to appreciate the gameplay.Play the Game of the Month and win prizes! Click the link below to view the kickoff thread, which includes the detailed rules. I highly encourage players to start things off with a more recent entry, such as last year's excellent Shantae and the Seven Sirens. While Shantae is a good game, it's showing its age in some areas. However, I find it hard to recommend that route.

It's rare that something like that happens, and some newcomers might even be tempted to start the series from its humble beginnings. With Shantae's release on Nintendo Switch, the entirety of the series is now available on a single platform for the very first time.

There's also an art gallery, and an option to use save states. The original version allowed for some enhancements when played on Game Boy Advance, and players can select between the two versions on Switch. WayForward really took advantage of the Game Boy Color hardware, with vibrant visuals and great character designs. As far as presentation is concerned, Shantae is a very good-looking game for its age.
